Reimagining an iconic fabric

Gap × Harlem’s Fashion Row.

Born and raised in the Virgin Islands, Igdaliah Pickering’s family has been designing clothes for generations. “My mom sews, my grandma sews. I've been designing since I was, I don't know, a baby,” she says. Her first sewing project: a pillow with a denim heart on it. She’s been sewing ever since.

After going to SCAD in Georgia, Igdaliah started her brand IGDALYAH and stepped out on her own. Her pieces use surreal textiles and bold colors — a celebration of self-expression. “The washed turquoise-teal denim in this collection was developed to mirror the Caribbean Sea back home. Everything I design is really an extension of myself.”
